G3: Integration of new energy sources

Renewable energy systems are expanding and are expected to grow even faster in the coming years. To achieve high penetration levels similar to conventional generation, renewable energy systems will have to integrate with utility systems in a way that ensures their effective operation while not causing operational problems to utility systems.

The course seeks to improve the understanding of the renewable energy system characteristics and their interactions with power grids. The characteristics of many renewable systems that distinguish them from conventional systems can complicate their integration into power grids and often result in additional system costs. The course covers some of the key integration issues. In addition, the course covers existing and potential solutions that would facilitate an even higher rate of deployment.
